Executive Director

Timothy J. Averill serves as the Executive Director of SET SEG, the premier public school insurance provider in the state of Michigan. Appointed by the board of directors in 2015, Tim provides strategic direction to multiple programs including the MASB-SEG Property/Casualty Pool – the state’s largest school pool, the SEG Self-Insurer Workers’ Compensation Fund, SET Employee Benefit Services, and SEG Reinsurance.

 

In more than 22 years at SET SEG, Tim has held a variety of positions, including Director of Finance and Corporate Operations and Chief Operating Officer. Throughout his tenure, membership in the Pool has grown from 360 members to 514 members and, since being appointed Executive Director, the Pool and Fund have experienced 100 percent member retention.  Tim’s leadership and dedication have strengthened programs, quintupled the Pool’s total insured valued, and resulted in the return of nearly $400 million in net assets to members.

 

Tim serves on the board of directors for SEG Re, a captive insurance company for SET SEG’s programs, and the SET SEG Foundation. Prior to joining SET SEG, Tim worked as CPA for Plante Moran, working with self-insured funds and non-profit organizations. He graduated from Central Michigan University with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and gained his certified public accountant certification in 1993.
